Linkwithin is a great free tool for bloggers to use. Linkwithin will display related posts at the end of your blog posts. The great thing about this tool is that it is automatic. Linkwithin does all of the heavy lifting for you using a complex algorithm to determine which posts on your site are most related to the current post. Linked below, you will find a post where I further explain the importance of having a related posts plugin such as Linkwithin. Click here to see that post.
Well, you’ve made it past Why You Need a Related Posts Plugin and are now wanting to set one up. This post will show you how to install LinkWithin for your Blogger blog.
First up, a little message from me:
Step One:
Visit LinkWithin.com and you’ll see this box that you’ll use to get set up:
Step Two:
Use the box pictured above and enter your email and blog url. Then select your platform (Blogger) and select the width (either 3,4 or 5), which tells LinkWithin how many related posts to show. I recommend 4 or 5. There is also a box to select if you have a blog with a dark background and light text. Like this. Ps. If you check that box, email me. We need to talk.
Step Three:
Now, don’t think you’re good to go by following the instructions that they provide on the LinkWithin site. You’ll wind up with text only links and won’t get images. Do this instead:
Click the little arrow next to “edit content” to reveal some HTML code. Highlight the entire code and copy it.
Step Four:
In your Blogger dashboard, click add a gadget.
Scroll down to find HTML/JavaScript.
You’ll probably want to (and you definitely can) leave the title blank. Then simply paste the html code that you have already copied into the content box and hit the “save” button.
Step Five:
Drag the gadget right underneath the “Blog Posts” section as shown below.
That’s it! You should be good to go! People will now be reading more of your blog posts!
Note: it may take up to 4 hours to finish populating data and actually start showing images.
Note #2: if you have ad/script/plugin blockers of any kind set up, you may not be able to see them. Try a browser where you don’t have the add-ons installed to see what the plugin looks like.
Problems installing LinkWithin on Blogger: People have been having trouble installing this for Blogger. For some reason, the content box is coming up as empty and no widget can be installed. Here’s how to get around that: Instead of selecting “Blogger” on the first screen, choose “other” and enter all other information as you normally would. When you click get widget, you’ll see some code. Copy that code. Now, when you select “Blogger” and the blank content box shows up, paste the code that you copied into that box.
I simply want to say I’m a newbie to blogging and definitely like your blog. Everything is broken down in a way that makes sense. Thank you for everything!
Thanks Brooke! Glad I could help!
Hi, I followed everything you’ve said but it still won’t show my pictures…Can you help me please? I’m on Blogger…
Hi Dash! I’m not sure why the images wouldn’t show. Maybe check your “related content” settings and make sure you have it set to show thumbnails. Also, if you wrote this right after you did it, it could take up to 4 hours to finish gathering data to show the images. I will add that note to the end of the post.
What do you mean related content settings? Where can I find it? I tried but didn’t see it anywhere, Sorry and thanks for your help!
Sorry, I was speaking for a WordPress blog. For Blogger, I don’t know why the images would not be showing. Are you getting text links to show at least? Also, if you leave a link to your blog, I could take a look and try to figure it out.
Thank you for your time, I really appreciate it! I’ve found that it might be because my posts/pictures don’t have thumbnails? I’m just trying to figure out what it is and how important it is….
At this moment it doesnt even show titles which used to…
Ok another thing that could be happening is that there are not enough posts on your blog for LinkWithin to choose from. It pulls related posts based on a few different metrics and it is possible that there is nothing to show. Perhaps once you get a good handful of posts published, it will begin to pull some related posts.
Thank you, I will wait and see 🙂 !!
Hi!! Im Minori, and I also got some troubles installing the linkwithin gadget 🙁 My pictures didn’t appear eaither, but now you probably gave me the answer, soooooo THANK YOU VERY MUCH! I think all I have to do now it’s posting more to see finally the images appear 🙂
BTW, I definitey will keep in touch with your blog to learn more!
Xoxo
Happy to hear it! 😀
This is awesome! Thank you! I started getting clicks immediately!
One bit of advice for fellow readers: if you’re running script- and/or plug-in blockers (NoScript, Ghostery, Disconnect, Collusion…) you will have to disable them to see the LinkWithin content. I run a whole raft of them and had to dig around and turn off several before it would load.
Also, as mentioned above, it took a few hours for the LinkedWithin links to start showing up.
Unobtrusive and effective! Excellent!
Thanks again,
Robin

Hi Robin!
Glad you’re already getting clicks from it. I love Nrelate as an easy way to expose more of your content to your readers.
Thanks for the tip on the script blockers too! I’m adding a note to the post now.
Hey Zack,
Any idea how I can get LinkWithin to show four links instead of three? (I opted for three when I signed up, but have room for four; no info on their site or response from their support address.)
Robin
Rusty Ring: Reflections of an Old-Timey Hermit
Unfortunately I don’t see a way to change it once it has been installed. What you can do is delete the LinkWithin gadget that from your Blogger layout screen and start over. The whole re-install process won’t take but 5 minutes I imagine.
Thanks, Zack!

Awesome! I’ve wanted this for such a long time but couldn’t figure out how to do it with the new Blogger!! Thanks!
Cindy
I used to have the link within, and then my domain switched from http://www.intoareverie.com back to a blogspot.com address. I want to remain with blogspot, so I removed my link within and any time I want to try and re-add it, it still goes back to http://www.intoareverie.com, so if you click on one of the links to an old post it goes to an unknown page! help! I’ve tried to notify linkwithin, and also waited the appropriate amount of time but nothing happened.
Are you re-trying it from linkwithin.com and starting fresh? I would try that if you are not. If you are, maybe try entering a different email address in the email box?
I was/am! I tried again with a different email address, but it still just loads the http://www.intoareverie.com links within, which no longer exist! 🙁
That is so odd. You can also try nRelate, which is very similar. I bet they won’t pull from the old site. Here’s a tutorial for that: http://morefromyourblog.com/how-to-install-nrelate-for-blogger/
I have the same problem as I changed my blogs name. I wonder if you managed to find a solution?
thank you very helpfull widget
how to order linkwithin appear only for a single post.
This post might answer your question: http://www.733blog.com/2012/03/how-to-have-linkwithin-gadget-show-only.html
thanks for the quick response from you, I’ll try it.
Thank you for this, very well explained.
I was wondering, do you know how to customise it so it only displays on the post pages (and not the homepage)? I’ve found some instructions (including the post you recommended from 733blog) but they sound a bit too high tech for me.
Ok, this one looks a bit easier. You just have to get your own Linkwithin ID by going to the site and replace that number in the code they provide. Follow the steps and you’ll be fine. Good luck! 🙂
http://classofbeginner.blogspot.com/2013/10/how-to-show-linkwithin-related-post.html
Thanks Zack! This IS a lot simpler but unfortunately it doesn’t work 🙂 Surely linkwithin should provide a solution themselves?
This worked and I managed to follow the instructions 🙂 http://healthy-and-fun.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/how-to-putting-linkwithin-widget-at_14.html
Hi,
I really appreciate you helping all of us! 🙂
I have tried every thing, every website but still my linked in is only showing text not images.
Any tips? thank you!
I looked at you blog and can’t figure out why it wouldn’t show. I used their support one time and found it helpful. Maybe give that a shot? http://www.linkwithin.com/support
Thank you for your help! 🙂
Thank you for your help! 🙂
Hi! I’ve been searching all over the net and I can’t find anyone with the same problem! This same thing happened when I was going to link the bloglovin widget to my blog and when I wrote to the support they just linked me the code to the widget.
See my problem: I have no idea where I get the code. Is it just supposed to appear in the “Edit content” box? Because mine i always empty and the code is nowhere to be found elsewhere. What am I doing wrong? Please help, the Linkwithin support won’t answer me for some unknown reason… 🙁
Ok not sure why that is happening but it is happening to me as well. Here’s what to do. Instead of selecting “Blogger” on the first screen, choose “other” and enter all other information as you normally would. When you click get widget, you’ll see some code. Copy that code. Now, when you select “Blogger” and the blank content box shows up, paste the code that you copied into that box. Let me know if that worked!
I did what you said and I’m surprised it was that simple! Thank you so much!
Now I have a follow up question though… sorry to bother so much
Since these are supposed to be related posts, shouldn’t they only link to posts that have the same tags as the that post? If you understand what I mean…
For example: I want my post about nailart to link to some of my other posts with the same tag “nailart” !
Oh, I’m sorry I think it might be because I don’t have enough posts about a certain catergory so it just links to something random instead? Because on some posts it does what it’s supposed to do…
Yes, that is it. Also, it does not only pull from categories. It recognizes similar words in the post as well.
Hey, when I open “Edit content” there’s nothing, just an empty box, no code at all. Can you paste me just the code so I can adjust it to my blog?
Try choosing “other” as your blog platform. That should get you the code.
Thanks Zack, your tutorial was the best one I could find out there…you thought of everything, including the blank window with no javascript in it. Thanks for being so thorough!!
Awesome! Happy to hear it! Thanks for leaving a comment!
But This Widget Is Not Working For My Blogger.
Have you give it a couple of hours to show up? Also, do you have enough content for it to pull from?
Thank you very much. In 5 minutes you solved my problem with the installation on Blogger (I had to follow indications at the end of your post).
For 2 hours I’ve tried to find the solution on italian blogs (i’m italian, I thought I understood better the instructions in my language) but I haven’t found. And then I landed here. Thank you.
Awesome! Glad it helped!
Hello Zack,
I have been trying for about 18 months to sort out how to do related posts. I tried to install LinkWithin months ago and gave up. I sent a message to LinkWithin but never got a reply.
I managed to install nRelate instead, which was fine for a few months, until it started repeating itself. Then I got nRelate to re-index, after which it kept on coming up with the same six or seven posts.
So I decided to try LinkWithin again. Again it wouldn’t work, until….
Hooray Hooray Hooray I found the answer here!!! THANK YOU ZACK! I was having the empty code box problem, but with your help I have sorted it out in a few minutes. I can sort out old sewing machines, but with computers I need help…
Lots of love, hugs and kisses from England,
Muv
Awesome! Glad it helped! Cheers!
Hello again Zack,
After all the excitement earlier, now I find it works on my husband’s laptop, but not on my computer…
I’m puzzled. Any ideas?
Thanks again
Hi! It could be your computer’s browser cache is not cleared and is showing an older version of your site. Either clear your browser’s cache or try a different browser. I just visited your site and it worked for me. 🙂
Ah! This was so great. I couldn’t get this code to work on my Blogger for the longest time and your tutorial really helped to fix the problem. Love it. Thank you so much!
– Lindsay, http://www.growingeastblog.com
Awesome! Glad it worked! 🙂
Hi, thanks so much for this information! Your blog is great.
I use Blogger and I was just wondering why I can’t customize the title of my new LinkWithin Gadget. It’s stuck as ‘You might also like’, even though I titled the gadget ‘YOU MAY ALSO LIKE’.
Also, do you know how to add a subtitle to a post like: http://www.manrepeller.com/2014/02/sick-style-shit-weather.html
Thanks,
Elizabeth | http://www.theundomesticated.com
Hi! Thanks for the kind words!
It looks like you fixed it. I went to your blog and only see the “YOU MAY ALSO LIKE” text. It also looks like you figured out the subtitle. Nice work!
Thanks so much for sharing, it is working now!!
Yay! Glad to hear it!
you can alternatively set nRelate on your Blog which is way better then LinkWithin. Here is the link of complete post explaining every process step by step. nRelate also offer you to earn some money by showing ads on your Blog or website.
http://sarcaassm.blogspot.com/2014/02/setup-nrelate-widget-to-your-blog.html
nRelate is definitely another good option, which is why I wrote a post about it a year ago: http://morefromyourblog.com/how-to-install-nrelate-for-blogger/
It even made my list of the top 10 plugins: http://morefromyourblog.com/10-best-plugins-for-wordpress/
This was so helpful, thank you! I kept getting no code!
Awesome! Happy to hear it!
Thank you for your detailed help with Linkwithin. Like most others I was getting an empty code box. One question – I can’t see the widget on Chrome but can see it on Explorer. Why is that?
That could be a browser cache issue. If you’re seeing it on one browser, chances are everyone else is seeing it as well.
AHH! Thank you soo much for posting this! LinkWithin wasn’t working and I was getting so frustrated with it! Thanks again!!
Liz @ Sprinkles&Sequins
No problem! Glad it worked!
Thank you so much for this! It really helped!!! The only problem is that it is also linking other “related” posts that aren’t mine. They’re from totally different blogs. I don’t have very many posts up so far. Could that be the problem??
That is quite strange. I’d wait until you have a few more posts done. If it’s still doing it, I’d remove it, then re-add it.
Thank you very much! I’ll do that. 🙂
yay this is super helpful.
I had trouble installing it on blogger and this post was of tremendous help. Thank you Zack.
You’re awesome!
Awesome! Glad to help!
Dear Zack,
I was about to start pulling my hair out frantically when I came across your post, and I immediately sorted the problem out. Now the widget finally works! Thanks a lot!
Yet, I’ve noticed two problems: one is that some posts I erased from my blog (either recently or a long time ago) keep appearing on the LinkWithin row quite mysteriously. I’ve tried erasing the very photos from WebPicasa, but to no avail. They still show up, all the time, even if they link to an “empty” page. It’s unnerving!
The second problem is that some of the so-called “related posts” are not related at all! Many of them are not even under the same category…
Could you please let me know if you have any explanation for these hitches?
Best,
Miú
The deleted posts showing up is odd! Try searching for that post in your blogger dashboard and if you find them there, delete them. The related posts that it pulls are sometimes not related at all. I’t not perfect but gets it most of the time!
Hello Zack,
I had trouble to installing the LinkWithin widget. After completing signup details, it is open newpage show install widget to open new blogger window. I was clicked the install widget link then it open Add Page Element i clicked Add Widget than it shows Whoops, that’s an error and i open edit content there is no code below now what can i do. Please solve my problem asap.
I’ve been trying to figure this out for ages. I’m using Blogger and I read your note below that it doesn’t work straightforward with Blogger. Now I know why and have already installed it in my blog!
Thanks so so much!
No problem! Happy to help!
OMG thank you sooo much! I am using blogger so I was going crazy trying to figure this out for days, all i needed was to copy the code! Thanks again!!
No problem! Glad it worked for you!
You are amazing! I spent so many hours trying to figure out why it wouldn’t work for blogger and you helped me fix it! Thank you so much!!
Awesome! Glad you found my blog! 🙂
Just wanted to say thanks for great instructions on how to do this. I had gone to the LinkWithin site and the box was empty and I had no clue what to do!
No prob! Happy to help!
Hi Zack ……….. it helped a lot , i have just one question is it possible to make related post picture lil bit bigger ???????????
I don’t know that it’s a possibility in Blogger – sorry!
Man, I don’t usually write comments, but right now I feel like hugging you for your help with installing LinkWithin. I got the blank box and tried several html codes found on the web, with no result. I was utterly frustrated. And then, days later, I find your page and, against all misgivings, it WORKED! Thank you so much! God bless you! 🙂
Haha thanks! Glad it helped!
Hi! Thank you for sharing this! It really helped me solve the problem for blogger. I have been at it for about a few minutes and I decided it was going nowhere and goggle led me to you! Thanks again! 🙂
Obrigada 🙂 foi uma óptima ajuda. Eu estava a ter problema porque me aparecia tudo branco.
De nada! Feliz em ajudar!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!!
I am a complete novice to not only blogging but any type of CSS or HTML goes right over my head and in my husband’s “Honey-Do” list. I have been struggling with trying to add LinkWithin to my blog this entire week! All I got was that darn “Whoops that’s an error”. Not exactly reassuring me that I can handle reading and following directions. I have been trying to find a way to get it to work, and today I found YOU!
Genius! You helped me step-by-step and it worked! I did a “Rocky” style run around my kitchen table this morning cheering myself on! I am going to write a post this morning crediting you for helping me. I haven’t had the opportunity to look around your site further, but I will! I am a big fan now, and will be forever in your debt! Thank you!!!!!!
Awesome! This comment made my day! Glad it helped and happy to hear you’re going to read more of my site. See you around! 🙂
Hi Zack! Can you help me please with this widget set up? I am trying what you wrote, but the ‘Edit Content’ box is empty for me. Do you know why? I have uploaded and removed it at least 7 times, but still nothing,
I also copied the html you have in the image.
When I added this, not only the LinkWithin did not appear but all my other widgets were deleted (Reading List, Profile, Facebook Like/Share button). Once I removed the widget again, everything came back to normal, except there is no LinkWithin. 🙁
Any idea why this is happening?
My blogsite is: sentimentalinberlin.blogspot.co.uk
Thank you very much in advance in any case!
Did you see the very last paragraph of the post about what to do if the box is blank?
Oh how silly I am 🙁 I have not. I read many of the comments, but not that paragraph.
But now it all works! Fantastic! Thank you so much for your help! Without your article and last nudge, I think I would have been given up as I am trying to sort this out for days now.
Thank you very much appreciated! 🙂 haha and as others said, I am definitely coming back to your blog for more tips 🙂
Great to hear! Happy it worked! 😀
hi
i fallowed ur steps , but when i tryed to install widjet , i noticed edit content is empty and there is no edit template at all.
so i wrote the code of edit content which is given in ur blog and typed in edit content and falowd other steps , so i got linkwithin in my blog with trip pics instead of my blog pics . so wat to do now? i thought if i change site id it may show my blog pics , but how to get site id?
pls reply
Did you follow the last paragraph about what to do if the code doesn’t show up?
hi
i got it , am so happy , thank u so much
Great to hear! No problem!
Thank you for this! But days after I installed it my older posts link to tech365’s website as well as my latest post instead of to link in my own blog. What is going on???
Wow that is very strange… Did they initially link to your own posts, or have they only ever linked to tech365? The only thing I can think is that wires somehow got crossed during the install. I’d remove it and start again with a new installation. Let me know if that does it.
It has done both. I originally got the code through that site but when I saw this was happening I removed it and di it they way you have above but it still links to that site randomly. Weird, right?
Ya, it looks like his site ID is still in there somewhere. If you run a search while in your site’s html code and replace this: 1638185 (his site ID) with this: 2117931 (your site ID) you should be all good.
Thanks. I did have my code up but I can’t find a way to do a search to see if his is up somewhere else. I removed linkwithin all together until I can figure it out but it’s still there. So that has me thinking his code somehow ended up somewhere else in my html code. Ugh.
Yep, it’s in there somewhere. I see it when I view the page source in my browser. When you open your HTML code, you can find the numbers by using your web browser’s search function.
If you can’t get it, you can email me and I can look really quick.
I’m headed out for a few minutes but I can check it out a little later.
Ha! Never mind I found it hiding!! Thank you so much for all your help with this!!
Yay! Good to hear! And no problem, happy to help! I’ve got way more stuff to help bloggers here too, so please have a look around sometime if you haven’t already! 🙂
Great, I finally got it to work on Blogger with your advice! Thanks!
Thanks for this post. I was having the Blogger link-within problem and now it’s fixed.
Thank you!!! I have been trying to get this to work for the past few weeks, and by following your instructions, I finally have the list of pictures appear under my posts! Oddly though, there is no text under them (only one). Is this normal? Perhaps it is something I do wrong when I post (I am very much a beginner), but if you have any feedback, I’d love to hear it.
Either way, I am so happy to have even the list of pictures show up! Thanks!
Well that’s a new one! I’ve never heard of that, so I’d say maybe undo it and try it again?
Darn, I just tried to install it again, and still no text under the pictures (except for one picture). If I can figure out what makes that one entry so special, I can try to replicate that for the others. Thanks again!
So strange… I can’t think of what could be causing that…
Thanks! Worked like a charm… especially when I scrolled down and learned how to do it, when Blogger was acting strange. 🙂
Awesome! Glad it worked!
FINALLY!!!! I’ve been trying to get this on my blog forever and couldn’t get it to work on blogger. Tried contacting link within but they never responded. Finally stumbled on your blog. THANK YOU!!!
Sweet! Happy you found me and glad it worked!
Thanks!!! for sharing and helping.
Thanks for the info, that helped me.

OMG thank you!! I have been trying to get this to work for ages. I STILL couldn’t get link within to work but I was able to get nrelate to work with the way you described!
Awesome! Glad it worked!
thank you! I had a problem installing LinkWithin on Blogger but your solution worked 😀
Sweet! Happy to hear it!
Thank you for this tip. I just followed the instructions but I don’t see any images. I guess I’ll have to wait few hours to see if it shows up. Any idea why it’s suggesting the same thing on all of my posts? Does that take time to pull as well? I have about 47 posts so far and most of them have images. Is that still on the ‘not enough’ posts side to use LinkWithin? Thanks.
Yes, it should take a few hours. Sometimes up to 48. Everything should work out by then.
Perfect explanation! It worked beautifully. Thanks!
Hi Zack, Firstly, thanks for all the helpful tips and tricks. I am really struggling to get Linkwithin to work on my blogger blog. In the first instance, it kept showing content that didn’t belong to me for two days. I removed it and re-installed, and now it doesn’t display any links at all. I have noticed that the html code (linkwithin site id) has been different for both issues. Have tried removing and reinstalling a number of times, but no change. Please can you help? Thanks.
hello! sorry to bother you, but i stumbled upon your great blog tips and tutorials through google. i’m new to blogspot (7 months) and i tried to install the linkwithin codes 3 days ago. i didn’t see any thumbnail so i removed the linkwithin gadget today. i re-installed it again using “other” instead of “blogger” but still, i’m having the same problem. what could be the problem? and, may you please make the answer a little basic as i’m not very good with technical stuff hihi. thank you so much in advance.
Some of these comments go way back, but I just found you. Thank you so much. This was very helpful. I was getting the blank page on the Linkwithin when I chose Blogger as my platform.
