Having Twitter followers is a good thing for many reasons. For one, every time you post new content on your blog, you can let people know via Twitter. The more followers you have, the more people see your new content! Brands also like to work with bloggers who have a big presence on Twitter. They will be more inclined to work with someone who has hundreds of followers as opposed to someone with 55. They want to know that you can reach a lot of people with their message. Those are just two ways that increasing your Twitter presence can lead to good things.
So now that we’ve established why we want to increase those Twitter numbers, let’s actually try and do it!
Here are 5 ways to get more Twitter followers:
Get Active!
When people see you tweeting, following, answering tweets, re-tweeting, etc, they are more inclined to get active with you and maybe follow you back, or re-tweet something you tweeted to their own followers. That would mean all of their followers would see your Twitter username. A few might click your name to find out more, and a few of those might choose to follow you. You can’t get followers if you don’t try though! So get out there and be present!
Advertise
They say it takes money to make money. Well, in blogland, it takes money to get noticed. Most of the time. There are countless blogs out there with advertising options that include social promotion. (I can help you navigate those blogs and offer advice on which ones your money will be best spent at. Contact me anywhere and we’ll talk!) Take note of whether or not the advertising options include social promotion and ask (if they are not clear) as to what that entails. Having someone with 2,000 Twitter followers simply send one Tweet out about you and your blog could result in a nice boost of a couple of dozen followers right off the bat.
Make Sharing Easy
What happens at the end of your posts? Aside from comments, is there anything else your readers can do? How about adding some social sharing icons. Take a look to your left here, as well as at the bottom of this post. If you want to (and please do!) share this post on any number of social channels, we make that option easy for you! If someone wants to share your content, why deny them? There are some great social sharing gadgets for Blogger under the “more gadgets” section that make this easy. This is not a way to pick up a ton of followers at one time, but it is definitely something that should be at the end of every post. In the social world, all it takes is the right person sharing your content to see some great results.
Host a Giveaway
And of course, make following you on Twitter an entry. This is an easy way to get a nice boost. Be careful here though. Unless you want a bunch of uninterested followers who are only there for the giveaway, try and only promote your giveaway in your blog-o-sphere. I made the mistake once of advertising a giveaway on a giveaway site. I was excited at first because my numbers jumped, but I quickly realized that my new Twitter followers were mostly from accounts set up exclusively for giveaways. That means they are basically useless followers. So giveaways are great for adding followers, but just make sure you’re going after the right kind of followers.
Twitter Parties
These are great for brands because they are able to connect with fans interested in their products. How can you capitalize? Well, that same collection of interested people might find your comments interesting. If it’s a party about fashion, offer some advice (hopefully when prompted and not out of the blue) and people who like what you say might follow you. Additionally, the brand might re-tweet you, which leads to more recognition and potentially more followers. How do you find a Twitter party? Well, keeping your eyes open on your favorite brand’s social channels might get you a lead. Another way is to keep your eye on the “trending” hashtags
Wrap-up
So there ya have it! If you’re looking to get your Twitter numbers up, these 5 things will certainly help you in doing that. The moral of the story is that you can’t pick up followers if you’re not being seen. So make yourself known and make it easy on others to follow you!
Great tips!! I’m definitely sharing this one on Twitter! 😉
🙂 Thanks!
This can be done across multiple Twitter accounts, although I personally choose to setup each Twitter account with different keywords to make sure that I don’t have too many duplicates if I am broadcasting the same message across several accounts. Even if you don’t feel comfortable
posting a picture of yourself, there are plenty of other options
out there – like stock photos of kittens, or daisies.
