Did you know that having a meta description for your blog can give you a little bit of help in the SEO world? SEO is search engine optimization and determines how high your page appears in search results. Google and other search engines are very powerful tools and you want to do everything you can to show up as much as possible in searches.
Anyway, back to the meta description. This is something that is automatically left blank and disables on Blogger. That means you have to go into your settings and manually add the description. With your description, you’ll want to include some keywords that you think fit well with your site. So, if you write about fashion, maybe include the words “dresses” and “boots” or something like that. The limit for search engines to read is 150 characters, so keep it short and sweet.
Ok, so here’s how to add the description for your Blogger blog:
Don’t worry about that warning. If all you do is add a meta description, nothing will happen. Note: do not put any html code in the description. It’s useless.
So there you have it. You’ve taken 2-3 minutes to help your SEO. It’s a trade-off that is well worth it.

Thanks.. I just did this and am interested to know how it helps? Should I now be putting an SEO friendly description on each post? Including keywords etc? What does it do for google rank etc?
I’m enjoying reading your blogging posts, thanks for sharing!

If you’d like to improve your chances of being found in a Google search, then I’d do this on every post. Also, it improves your click-through rate from Google searches because people have an opportunity to see what your post is about before they click. A meta description is part of a strong SEO site structure, which is never a bad thing for Google rank.
Hope that helps and thanks for the kind words! 🙂
